Eden-Evans Center Firefighters
Train to Rescue Trapped Rescuers
MidTown - September 24, 2002 --- Eden & Evans Center Firefighters
teamed up Tuesday night to train in firefighter rescue techniques.
Using Evans Center's Paratech Air Bag System, the mixed teams worked to free
a "downed" firefighter from under debris in a rear bedroom of Eden's
training trailer on New Jerusalem Road in their town.
Both Eden and Evans Center train and deploy FAST (Firefighter Assist and
Search Team) units to each other's districts. Also known as Rapid Intervention
Teams (RIT), these special operations units are trained to rescue trapped, lost
or injured firefighters.
The teams first reviewed each other's equipment caches and capabilities. In
this scenario, the teams practiced scene safety, patient assessment,
stabilization and extrication, and incident command.
Evans Center was dispatched to a working car fire
on the NYS Thruway as they were backing into Eden's station immediately
following the drill.
