Firefighters Pull Up their 'Boot' Straps to Raise Cash for Kids

MidTown - March 1, 2003 --- Evans Center Volunteer Firefighters teamed up with their fellow first responders in Angola, Highland, Lake Erie Beach and North Evans early Saturday morning to raise money for the Variety Club Telethon held over the weekend in Buffalo.

Firefighters went to the streets, slowing traffic on Routes 5 & 20 to gather donations in traditional firefighter boots. In doing so, the town's fire departments raised almost $6,500 for the Variety Club of Buffalo which serves children afflicted with life threatening or altering diseases and their families.

Special thanks go to all of the emergency services personnel who participated in the boot drive and especially all of those drivers and passengers who gave so generously.
