MidTown - September 30, 2003 --- Seven Evans Firefighters added to
their credentials by successfully completing New York State's third level of
firefighting training and being certified at the Advanced Firefighters.
Evans Center hosted the course at their HOT Zone training facility two nights
each week over four weeks in September. The students invested over 36 hours in
completing this final leg of a three part series that included Basic,
Intermediate and Advanced Firefighting - totaling 114 hours of
training.
Taught by State Fire Instructor Tom Partridge, Evans Center firefighters were
joined by others from Armor, Eden, Lake View and Patchin. The course focused on
strategy and tactics, sprinklers, foam and fire alarm systems, incident command
and other officer development topics. The eight unit curriculum included six
written exams where a combined score of 70 points was required to pass the
course.
Receiving their Advanced Firefighter Certificates were Evans Center Chief
Dennis Allen, Asst. Chief Tim Szczepaniak, Captains Tiger Schmittendorf and Pat
Murphy,
Lieutenant Mike Relosky and Firefighters Kevin Snyder and Bob Zamrok.
As part of the course, firefighters trained at Erie County Fire Safety's
Chestnut Ridge and Cheektowaga facilities to complete the hands-on evolutions
required.
