Tour Bus Burns-out Baseball Game June 20, 1998 --- Evans Center Fire Fighters Emily LaMountain and Craig Buczkowski (nozzle) stand by with a charged hose line as Bob Braeges, and Second Asst. Chief Bob Zamrok force open the luggage compartments on this tour bus to check for fire extension, as First Asst. Chief Tiger Schmittendorf looks on (l-r). The fire started after a tire blew and quickly engulfed the passenger compartment. The driver was able to get the bus to the median of the roadway and evacuate the passengers before anyone was injured. Eden fire fighters provided engine and tanker support at this fire which occurred around 9am approximately 1 mi. west of the Eden-Angola toll barrier on the New York State Thruway. Approximately 30 passengers traveling from Buffalo to a Cleveland Indians baseball game were stranded by the fire. Evans Center apparatus transported them to a nearby rest area to await a new ride.
