Trade Expo is big success
for Evans Center and the community

Mid-Town - March 25, 2001 --- Thousands of visitors flocked to the Evans/Brant Chamber of Commerce's Trade Expo at the Lake Shore Central High School over the weekend. The impressive new gymnasium, media center and dining room made the perfect setting for showcasing the educational and business gems of the community.

Erie County's V-FIRE poster drew a lot of attention to the boothEvans Center's presentation included an exhibit booth featuring Erie County's V-FIRE scholarship program and  a variety of fire department material. Available to the public were brochures on home fire safety tips, carbon monoxide, fire extinguisher use and Erie County's J-FIRE program to prevent juvenile fire play. Visitors were offered free copies of The Fire Fighter Newspaper. The exhibit table was draped in a new ECVFC table cloth designed and produced courtesy of tigertime designs.

Our crack BBQ team lead by Asst. Chief John Latimore fired up hundreds of chicken dinners served in the high school's new cafeteria. The BBQ sold out both days. Special thanks to Lynne, Teri, Shannon and Marlene for dishing out the dinners and coordinating the sale.

Many local residents stopped by the booth to ask questions about our newMike Goodrich, John Latimore and John Krieger tend to the chicken BBQ outside the high school station, the new EMS response plan and general fire safety. Several residents visited the booth to express their thanks to the fire company for saving their lives and to demonstrate how the EMS system worked for them.

One such visitor related how he had fallen off of and was trapped under his tractor last July. He suffered 17 different fractures and has no recollection of the incident. He came to thank us for the fact that he can walk today – and is alive to thank us. We'll have more on his success story later.

Our presence at the trade expo brought us a new volunteer recruit and a few for other departments in the area as well. The V-FIRE display generated quite a bit of interest as we'll pass those inquiries on to the appropriate agencies.

Congratulations to the Chamber's Expo Planning Team on a super event. We look forward to participating in next year's expo and other chamber events. Look for us at the "Taste of Evans" in August.
